Foreign Nationals in the UK

Managing your tax obligation efficiently and more!

Establishing your tax position and structuring your tax affairs before relocating can be advantageous. We work with employers and individuals to ensure that we optimise your tax position.

Residence & domicile

Your UK tax liabilities flow from your residence and domicile status. It is therefore essential to correctly understand your status to ensure you make the correct tax disclosures and pay the right amount of tax. We have extensive experience in advising on a person’s status and have many non-UK domiciled personal tax clients.

For the non-domiciled person, the tax legislation includes rules which may enable UK tax to be mitigated for overseas investment income, capital gains and overseas earned income. To minimise UK tax it is important to understand the rules and to organise your affairs appropriately overseas.

Your domicile is deemed to be the location of your permanent home, not necessarily the country in which you are currently resident or working. For tax purposes, you are deemed resident in the UK and therefore subject to UK tax if you are in the UK for 183 days or more in a given tax year.

Our experienced tax team will assist on all planning issues including:

  • the tax implications of purchasing property in the UK
  • appropriate structuring of offshore banking arrangements
  • treatment of shares and bonuses
  • preparation of US tax returns
